If you’re looking for sun, sea, and sand then this isn’t the right destination for you.

But if you’re looking for a rich culture, exceptional landmarks, and a vibrant nightlife scene then there’s no better place to be.

5 Reasons Why This Trending European Capital City Is Best Visited In Spring

In 2023 12.1 million foreign tourists visited the German capital of Berlin, which is a whopping 16% increase year-on-year.

Here are 5 reasons why this trending European capital city is best visited in Spring:

Rich Cultural Heritage

Berlin is one of the top European cities for international visitors and it was also recently voted one of the most interesting destinations in the world alongside New York and Cape Town.

Some of the main cultural attractions in the city include the 18th-century Brandenberg Gate, its Holocaust memorial, and the graffiti-covered remains of the Berlin Wall. Berlin can be very cold and very wet during the winter months but spring is a much better time for sightseeing.

Berlin is a relatively compact and walkable city, but it manages to cram a huge number of attractions into a relatively small space. History buffs, art lovers, and culture vultures will all find plenty to enjoy here.

Exciting Spring Festivals

Berlin celebrates the arrival of spring with dozens of exciting spring festivals, and these are a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture and have a whole heap of fun!

From March 30 – May 12 you can attend Spring Festival at Kurt-Schumacher-Damm which offers amusement rides and culinary delights.

For something a little more unusual in mid-May, the spring festival “Primavera” takes place in Berlin’s Schöneberg district which celebrates all things asparagus: a popular delicacy in the city.

Visit A Beer Garden

Beer enthusiasts flock to Berlin in October for the city’s famous Oktoberfest events. But if you want to celebrate German beer in a lower-key way, then there’s a lot to say about visiting the city in spring, too.

Berlin’s beautiful beer gardens start opening up again in the spring when the weather warms up. This is a great time for relaxing with a beer and socializing with fellow beer enthusiasts.

The beer gardens are the heart of the city and you’ll find locals relaxing here on the weekends or after work. It’s a great way to soak up the energy and atmosphere of Berlin.

The City Comes To Life

You don’t have to fly all the way to Japan to see cherry blossoms, perhaps spring’s most famous flower. In Berlin the whole city is tinged pink thanks to the huge number of cherry blossom trees and the city springs to life with blossoms and buds everywhere.

Although it is a landlocked city Berlin does have a lot of water. Of particular note is Lake Tegel which is the second largest lake in Berlin as well as its most beautiful. It’s a great place for taking walks, steamboat rides, and sailing. On warmer spring days you can even surf or swim here.

It might not be an obvious option for things to do in such an urban and cosmopolitan city but Berlin is a great place to get outside. Locals and tourists alike love to walk or cycle through Berlin’s parks, forests, and lakes.

Why not visit the Garten der Welt Berlin, which is home to 10 international gardens and is an oasis in the heart of the city?

Soak In The Street Art

Berlin has a reputation for being one of the best cities in the world for street art.

You’ll find many famous and lesser-known pieces in Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg, and you will see the city’s street art as you’re exploring or moving from landmark to landmark.

If you’d like to learn more about street art in Berlin in greater depth then I recommend booking one of the main walking tours available which will show you pieces you might not find on your own and explore the art in greater depth.
