We care about ease of travel, and there’s nothing better than a direct flight that goes exactly where you want to go (or at least to a major hub that can get you where you want to go).
With that in mind, we are delighted to learn that Turkish Airlines has launched a new flight from Detroit directly to Istanbul that will start operating in November. Tickets are currently available, so make sure you book now to get the best deal.

This is what you need to know
The new route will operate three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and the first flight will depart on November 15.
Although Istanbul is a major hub, and many travelers may only make a short layover there before their final destination, Turkish Airlines encourages travelers to schedule longer layover times to experience the city with a program called Layover in Istanbul.

Passengers with layovers of at least 20 hours can stay for free at select partner hotels so they can see a bit of Istanbul before continuing on their journey. And maybe you will fall in love and take a longer trip there in the future!
All about Turkish Airlines
In operation since 1933, Turkish Airlines has become one of the best known and most reputable international airlines today.
The experience of a long-haul flight can vary greatly depending on which airline you fly with, and Turkish Airlines generally receives positive reviews.

The airline’s fleet contains both Airbus and Boeing aircraft, so the actual configuration and bids will depend on your route, but Turkish Airlines was awarded seven out of seven stars on AirlineRatings.com for its product, which includes inflight entertainment, seat tilt, meals, beds and blankets and pillows, as well as the editors’ personal experience.
Plus, Turkish Airlines is frequently cited as having some of the best airline food in the business, and we know how hard that can be to come by!
What to do when you arrive in Istanbul
Istanbul is a bucket list destination for many travelers, and it’s one that will likely exceed your expectations. There is no shortage of things to do and see, with historical and cultural sites like the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque topping many lists.

You could spend a whole day in the Grand Bazaar, wandering among the more than 4,000 shops and stalls and admiring the pottery, gold and silver jewelry, carpets, spices and, of course, nibbling on little squares of sugary Turkish delight and in dust.

Bustling Taksim Square, often considered the center of modern Istanbul, attracts almost all visitors with its variety of restaurants, bars, and theaters.
But for a slightly lesser-known destination, hop on a taxi or ferry to Ortaköy, a more fashionable area that, during the day, is filled with shops and stalls and different craft and clothing markets on different days of the week.
At night, you will discover that it is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Istanbul to experience the nightlife.

While many buildings in the city are architectural and historical marvels in their own right, Istanbul is also home to many famous museums, including the group of three Istanbul Archaeological Museums, the Topkapi Palace Museum, the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, and the Grand Palace. Mosaic Museum, among many others that will delight lovers of history and art.
After exploring Istanbul, move on
While Istanbul is clearly worth visiting for a longer time, the city also serves as a major hub for international flights, and this new route from Detroit could take you to a variety of places, including other places within Turkey, such as short flights to Antalya, Izmir or the capital city of Ankara.
Of course, most of the direct flights from Istanbul fly to other places in Europe, although there are also numerous flights to places further afield, such as Cairo, Abu Dhabi and Seoul.

We love seeing destinations around the world become more accessible, and this new Turkish Airlines flight from Detroit to Istanbul is a fantastic opportunity for so many travelers!
