Cruises are having a renaissance, with more people sailing than ever before.
And cruises are no longer just for the elderly. Youth groups, solo travelers, couples and families are also discovering the joys of cruising.
For this reason, cruise ships are getting bigger and bigger.
This week, Royal Caribbean new Icon Class ship completed its first round of sea trials.

Named Icon of the Seas, this 1,200-foot-long ship will become the world’s largest cruise ship.
The ship will feature the world’s largest water park at sea, with 6 record-breaking slides, as well as 7 pools and 9 Jacuzzis.
But what are the biggest cruise ships in the world you can sail on right now?
Here’s a full list:
wonder of the seas
The Oasis Class Royal Caribbean Wonder of the Seas is currently the largest cruise ship at sea.
It’s no coincidence that 5 of the 7 ships on this list were built by Royal Caribbean, which specializes in creating floating cities.

At 1,188 feet long, this ship can accommodate up to 6,988 passengers and 2,300 crew members.
It features an incredible Aquatheatre, the most modern and completely redesigned pool decks at sea, and an all-suite neighborhood concept.
symphony of the seas
Another Royal Caribbean Oasis Class ship, Symphony of the Seas, is sister ship Wonder of the Seas and was the largest ship in the world until Wonder put to sea.
Symphony of the Seas was built with families in mind.

Passengers can plunge into the Ultimate Abyss, which is the highest slide in the sea.
This ship also features a bevy of amazing waterslides and a duo of Royal Caribbean’s famous FlowRider surf simulators.
harmony of the seas
With 2,747 staterooms, Harmony Of The Seas accommodates 6,687 guests.
Like Symphony of the Seas, Harmony features an Ultimate Abyss slide. Guests can also experience RipCord by iFLY, which is the first skydiving experience at sea.

From Royal Suites to small but perfectly formed Inside Staterooms, Oasis-class ships offer staterooms to suit a variety of budgets. There is also an adult-only sundeck retreat for those passengers traveling without their families.
attraction of the seas
Allure of the Seas is the sister ship to Harmony of the Seas, and the two ships were built at the same time.
Like the Harmony, the Allure of the Seas is 1,187 feet long and has more facilities than your average small town.

According to Royal Caribbean’s website, « Allure of the Seas is one of the most awarded cruise ships, with prizes ranging from best onboard entertainment to best family activities. »
oasis of the seas
As the name suggests, Oasis of the Seas was the first of Royal Caribbean’s 5 Oasis-class ships.
The ship was launched in 2008 but underwent a complete makeover in 2019, meaning she has the same fresh feel as the other Oasis-class ships.

The ship’s layout features 7 distinct neighborhoods across 16 decks. You will find 4 swimming pools, 10 jacuzzis and a huge water park.
Active visitors can also enjoy surf simulators, rock climbing walls, ice skating, and zip lines.
This means that Royal Caribbean ranks in the top 5 for the largest cruise ships in the world.
MSC World Europe
The relatively new MSC World Europa is MSC’s first world-class ship. She is 300 m long and has a capacity for 6,762 passengers.
Construction was completed in 2022 and work is already underway on a sister ship called MSC World America, due for delivery in 2025.

During the world cup in Qatar, MSC World Europa was used as a floating hotel in Doha.
This liner packs a punch when it comes to food, with over 30 different eating places.
Adventurous cruisers will enjoy the 250-foot-tall Drop Slide, located at the rear of the ship.
Emerald coast
Named after the Costa Smeralda in Sardinia, the Costa Smeralda is the largest ship in the Costa Cruises collection.
The Costa Smeralda is 1,105 feet long and can carry up to 6,554 passengers. Currently, the ship operates exclusively in the Mediterranean Sea.

The city was built to function as a « smart floating city » and is equipped with sustainable technologies that will reduce its carbon footprint while providing a luxurious experience for passengers.
This is an excellent option for passengers hoping to explore the Mediterranean on one of the largest cruise ships in the world.
