While some will fly to a Mediterranean island or even explore lesser-known coastal spots in Eastern Europe, most will take shorter trips south of the border and living in Cancun insteadthe luxurious resort of Mexico.

In fact, TripAdvisor has named it the number one international destination for US passport holders traveling this season. Despite sickeningly high prices and predictions of mass overcrowding, it’s still America’s favorite summer getaway in 2023, but Why is it still so popular?

Unsurprisingly, the Americans searched for Cancun more than any other international beach or vacation spot. It was also ranked number four in the overall ranking, which takes into account the travel preferences of US citizens, as well as British, Australian, Japanese and Singaporeans.

Cancun is by no means the most affordable option listed, but its wealth of world-class attractions, riotous nightlife, rapid internationalization, and sparkling blue oceans make it an obvious choice for sun-seekers.

Cancun offers sun, culture and relaxation

After three long years of pessimism and a constant influx of bad news, travelers are simply looking forward to relaxing when they go on vacation.

Due to its well-developed wellness and resort industry, Cancun is the ideal place for solo travelers and families looking to relax, bury their toes in the sand, sip some mimosas and just recharge their batteries after a long and stressful year.

It is also the gateway to the Riviera Maya, which includes many other beach destinations within a short drive of the bustling city, such as Tulum, Playa del Carmen and the offshore jewel of Cozumel.

As a whole, the region is famous for its rich cultural heritage. In Tulum, the picturesque Mayan ruins atop a cliff overlooking a sandy beach bounded by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean appeal to beachgoers and history buffs alike.

Farther inland, guests will find mystical cenotes hidden in dense rainforests, as well as a host of traditional Spanish-era settlements known for their vibrant colors and charming colonial architecture.

Cancun, and the Riviera Maya, to some extent, may have been denounced of late for their shortcomings on the tourism front, particularly when it comes to price gouging, but there is no denying that its cultural richness and the quality of the services provided are hard to get over.

Additionally, new flight routes are added each year, connecting Cancun to a growing list of airports in the United States, Canada, and beyond.

It’s close enough to home, it’s easy to get to, the service is phenomenal, and the panoramic views of the Cancun beach strip from the top of a condo in the luxury hotel zone are simply to die for – can you really blame the average american to come? back for more one more year?

What about affordability?

The same TripAdvisor research that found Cancun to be America’s favorite beach getaway reports that US citizens are more likely to travel during the summer than their foreign counterparts.

More than 82% of those surveyed are planning a trip, with 62% stating that ‘cost and affordability’ were a ‘key factor’ when selecting a destination.

Interestingly, Cancun is not as affordable as other entries on the list, but by comparison, the availability of low-cost flights departing from all the major US departure points and a wide range of resorts and lodging options, that promote competition in the hotel sector. and help make it more profitable, help offset costs.

Last year, more than 30 million tourists landed in Cancun, drawn by its sunny weather and luxurious scene.
