The best way to explore Old San Juan
On my recent trip to Puerto Rico, we took a food tour of Old San Juan called “Flavors of San Juan”, and it was absolutely incredible.
We tried all the local favorites, from short (espresso and milk) in Four Shadows Cafe to my personal favorite: mashing ours mofongo in The Mallorquina. For those who don’t know, mofongo is fried and mashed plantain mixed with other ingredients, and it’s so tasty!

There were so many delicious options in Old San Juan, and our guide told us the fascinating history of each of the restaurants and why the food we were trying was so important to Puerto Rican culture.
Our guide was so passionate about the history of Puerto Rico that you couldn’t help but get sucked into the stories and start to feel like you were part of the culture. He really makes you feel like a local.
I highly recommend taking this tour because you can experience the essence of Puerto Rican culture while exploring the incredible architecture around Old San Juan that makes this area so impressive and unique.

If you prefer to explore the local drinks rather than the local foods (or appreciate both equally), then you should definitely visit The factory in Old San Juan.
They have very unique and delicious cocktails and multiple bars with different atmospheres so that everyone can find the right atmosphere for themselves. They even have a hidden bar and secret passageways! This is definitely the place to go for a fun night out in San Juan.

Taste some history in the Caribbean
Did you know that piña coladas were invented in Puerto Rico? The original Piña Colada was actually invented in the CaribbeanHilton!
The history of the Piña Colada is proudly displayed on the lobby wall near your Caribbean. Before going out to a lovely Caribar terrace dinner, we experience the Piña Colada demonstration at the Caribbean, where the bartender guided us through the fascinating history of the original invention while preparing us the most incredible piña coladas.

But CaribbeanHilton It has more to offer than Pina Coladas.
There are 9 different restaurants on property with a variety of delicious options, or you can choose to stay in your room and simply order room service! The restaurants vary from Morton’s Steakhouse to the amazing Lola’s Puerto Rican cooking, serving traditional Puerto Rican dishes like mofongo and much more.
get out of the way
If you want to venture away from CaribbeanHilton for an amazing and fresh farm to table dinner then you should definitely go to food. The food served at Vianda is made with local produce and ingredients, and you can taste how fresh the food is in every bite.
Speaking of venturing off the property, be sure not to miss the stunningly beautiful El Yunque National Forest. The rainforest is exceptionally diverse, with many hiking trails and activities to enjoy.

You can climb the stairs of a watchtower for a stunning view of the rainforest and the island, perfect for taking the best photo for the ‘gram.
Don’t forget to stop and admire the La Coca Waterfalls, a beautiful waterfall that is very easy to get to!

After your hike, you may even find a section of the river at El Yunque to swim. For anyone like me who is constantly looking for a little more adventure, you can take the fun path to the river – cliff jumping and rope swinging!
If you’re looking for ocean adventures, come back to CaribbeanHilton. The property has rental equipment for diving, snuba, paddle boarding and even hiking in the sea! we went with him CaribbeanHilton guides on a sea voyage, and it was one of the best things I’ve ever done.

I absolutely fell in love with Puerto Rico and can’t wait to go back. There is so much to love about this beautiful island and I have honestly been craving food ever since I left (Did I mention how delicious the mofongo is?).
The people of Puerto Rico were very friendly and you could tell how much they liked to show us their culture and the history of their island. The beauty, culture and friendliness of this island will keep me coming back for years to come.
